Tours

After the conference is over, all delegates and any of their travelling companions are invited to join one of our local trips.  These post-conference tours, which can be booked via the conference registration portal, will take place on Friday 14 July 2017.  All tours are discounted and have been put together using local knowledge of the best spots to visit.  They also provide another great opportunity to mix and network with other conference delegates.

Great Barrier Reef

Cost $75.20 per adult (15 years and over), $36.25 per child (4-14 years of age), Children 3 and under are free of charge

Leave the mainland and see one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the only living thing on earth that is visible from space, up close and personal. This trip will visit Green Island for the morning. Green Island is a beautiful coral cay which enjoys world acclaim as a tropical paradise on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The island is a protected Marine Park which is readily identified from the air by its emerald rainforest surrounded by white sandy beaches and magnificent coral reefs. The marine life is abundant, including endless varieties of colourful fish, giant clams, shells, starfish, sea anemones, turtles and much more. While on the Island you have your choice of a free glass bottom boat tour or free snorkelling gear hire, as well as a number of optional ‘extra’ activities. Travel over on a modern, comfortable air-conditioned high speed catamaran.  Snacks, drinks and a licensed bar are available on board.

Tour departs Cairns from Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence St, Cairns (opposite the Shangri La Hotel) at 9.00am and arrives back in Cairns at 12.45pm.

Mossman Gorge Centre

Cost $95 per adult, Cost $66 per child.

The Mossman Gorge Centre (MGC) is located within the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park.   Mossman Gorge is a ‘must do’ for all to experience with its pristine waterfalls and vivid flora and fauna.  The centre is one of the few places in the country where visitors can gain insight into the lives, culture and beliefs of Australia’s Indigenous population, while also seeing spectacular Mossman Gorge.  MGC creates jobs and education for the Kuku Yalanji people, and provides a pathway to a sustainable future for the Mosman Gorge Community and all local Kuku Yalanji people.  This tour involves being collected from the Shangri La Hotel in Cairns at 9.00am.  You will be transported by private coach to Mossman Gorge Centre where you will have free time to explore the local area.  The Mossman Gorge Centre provides a shuttle bus that connects you with the gorge and a number of self-guided gorge walks.  Walk around this beautiful area and have a swim.  Within the centre is the MCG Gallery which showcases the distinctive artwork of the Kuku Yalanji people, and a café where you can enjoy a coffee, snack or lunch.

 At 12.00pm you will meet at the MGC for a guided Dreamtime Walk.  These award-winning tours are conducted by experienced local indigenous guides and include a traditional smoking ceremony, stories of the Kuku Yalanji culture and traditions, exclusive access to Kuku Yalanji land, soap and ochre paint making demonstrations and bush tea and damper.  This will run for approx. 1.5 hours.  At the end of the tour you will be transported back to your hotel by private coach.  You will return to Cairns by 3.00pm.
